The spirit of Motunui arrived at The Pine School as our entire Lower School took to the stage for a spectacular production of Moana Jr. Since January, every student from Kindergarten through 4th Grade has been immersed in the vibrant world of Oceania, culminating in two breathtaking performances for PINE's community and our guests during Grandparents & Special Friends Day.
In a unique display of School-wide collaboration, every single student in grades K–4 played a vital role in the entire show. From singing and dancing to mastering the script, the production allowed each grade level to shine with its own dedicated feature.
Our 4th Graders took on the leadership mantle, showcasing incredible growth in teamwork, responsibility, and determination. These students navigated a rigorous schedule of auditions, after-school rehearsals, and choreography sessions, all while memorizing an impressive amount of dialogue and music.
The journey to performance was a deeply cross-curricular and cultural experience. The learning extended far beyond the music room.
Artistic Design: In Art class, art teacher Amanda Jones guided students to explore traditional Polynesian patterns and motifs, creating stunning artwork that transformed the auditorium into a Pacific paradise.
Language & Culture: Students dedicated time to learning the Samoan and Tokelauan languages, ensuring the lyrics were delivered with respect and authenticity.
Storytelling through Movement: The choreography was intentionally designed to represent genuine Polynesian culture, teaching students the power of storytelling through traditional dance.
The production was helmed by Lower School music teacher Megan Alvarado, who guided the students through months of preparation.
"I am incredibly proud of how every student embraced the challenge of this production, showing a level of dedication and heart that truly brought the spirit of the islands to our stage," shared Ms. Alvarado.
