The Pine School boys soccer team didn't just win another state title this year—they cemented a dynasty.
In a high-stakes showdown at Lake Myrtle Sports Park, the Knights delivered a masterful 2-0 performance against a physical Canterbury side to secure the Class 1A State Championship. The victory marks the program’s fourth title in five seasons, making PINE only the fifth program in Florida history to capture consecutive state championships twice.
The hero of the night, Junior Benjamin Blanco, found the back of the net twice to break a tense, scoreless deadlock. His first goal came in the 28th minute after a clinical build-up from Chris Caballero, while his second—a poised redirection in the final minute—served as the "icing on the cake" to solidify the win.
While the offense provided the sparks, the defense provided the steel. Led by goalkeeper Harrington’s clean sheet and a backline that Junior Jacob Cornell credits to years of early-morning training sessions, the Knights largely neutralized the Cougars' athletic attack. For senior defender James Haffey, who has been on the pitch for all four of the school's recent titles, this finale was personal. Celebrating alongside his younger brother and a roster of teammates he considers family, Haffey noted that while the soccer was elite, the bond behind it meant even more.
The victory also put the finishing touches on a staggering 22-0-2 season. Reflecting on the undefeated run, Athletic Director Jeff Shirk noted that such a rare feat speaks volumes about the "relentless work ethic and perseverance" of the players. Head Coach Cam Omsberg echoed that sentiment, praising the team’s ability to earn every opportunity through sheer hard work.
In the end, the Knights didn't just defend their trophy; they proved that at The Pine School, success is a tradition built on grit, chemistry, and a refusal to settle for anything less than excellence.
