PINE Robotics Powers Through to State Championship Success

What an incredible journey for The Pine School's Robotics Team, Optimus PINE! The team recently concluded a historic competitive season, finishing as one of the strongest programs in Florida. With a dominant 21-8-1 record, they secured a 24th-place ranking out of 256 teams statewide—an elite performance that earned them a coveted spot at the State Championship in Winter Haven.
This year, the team took on the monumental challenge of designing, building, and coding two separate robots: Bumblebee and Pink Lemonade. This "double-effort" strategy ensured the team always had a "ready-to-play" machine for every tournament, but it required twice the coordination and grit.
The championship run was a true test of this resilience. Over six grueling matches, the team faced technical connectivity issues and a heart-stopping equipment drop mid-match. While Pink Lemonade served as the season's consistent workhorse, the team made a bold, high-stakes move at States: debuting their high-tech "moonshot" robot, Bumblebee. Despite the code being finalized right at the deadline, Bumblebee’s sophisticated design and ambitious engineering left a lasting impression on the judges.
"I am beyond proud of the work this team has accomplished," said physics teacher and sponsor Renato Laucas. "Their growth, brilliance, and 'never-give-up' attitude are what make this program so special."
