Academic MSMemories In The Middle

Have you ever wondered what the inside of a frog looks like or how to protect an egg from a six-story drop?  When was the last time you experienced an outdoor classroom, snorkeling and learning about ecosystems on Peanut Island? Have you recently marched in a Day of the Dead parade or challenged a friend to the French game of pétanque?

Middle School (Grades 5-8) at The Pine School is, in a word, awesome.

"Middle School faculty have an innovative ability to apply unique experiences and challenges to their lessons. This means continuous student engagement in hands-on activities and lessons beyond the classroom walls." shares Middle School Director Jonathan Tolliver.

Over half of PINE's Middle School faculty have attended the acclaimed Project Zero Classroom Program at Harvard's School of Education.  Each loves to expose his or her students to this innovative teaching philosophy. Lessons provide a deeper understanding through cooperative collaboration and visible learning - like sharing what you love about a novel through a self-made movie trailer or exploring other cultures through video meeting sessions with classrooms around the world.

And did we forget to mention all the special programs tailor-made for our Middle School students? These include Middle School dances, environmental-based field trips, Student Council and other leadership opportunities, and our student-driven clubs. These and more are part of what makes The Pine School's Middle School years so amazing.

Best of all, The Pine School's small-by-design environment naturally creates a school that feels like home, with classmates that support each other and teachers that foster connections with each student. Our Middle Schoolers enter Upper School as prepared, confident, and motivated learners.

We hope you will join us to find out just how unique "The Middle" can be at The Pine School.
